This Month in Gaming - January 2020

January historically isn’t the biggest month of the year for gaming releases. Studios generally focus their efforts into capitalising on Christmas and releasing a game shortly afterwards doesn’t make a huge amount of sense.

However it is a great time for DLC (downloaded content), remasters and picking up some games from us here at Cash Converters – people will sell old games and have a clean out so keep an eye out for anything you were looking for.

Iceborne

Speaking of DLC games, Monster Hunter World: Iceborne has finally been released for PC players after being available on console since September.

The expansion contains further development to the Monster Hunter World story, a new polar sub-continent to grind in. It even features an Elder Ice Dragon named Velkhana.

If you have never played a Monster Hunter game before, now is the perfect time to pick one up. They feature a robust crafting system, diverse combat and are one of the best game series to sink days into if you are really into grinding out gear.

Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire

Like how PC was running behind in getting Iceborne, it's now console's turn to get their hands on Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire.

This is a classic, isometric, top-down RPG that really harkens back to it’s D&D roots. It features the voice talents of Critical Role and special Critical Role content for any Critters out there.

Published by Obsidian Entertainment who have brought us the delightful Outerworlds and past classic Fallout: New Vegas, you know they know how to make a top tier RPG.

The long-awaited PS5 Console

This month is also the first time we have heard anything official from PlayStation about the upcoming PS5 console.

It has been speculated that it will release late in 2020, feature backwards compatibility and have a fast built-in SSD hard drive.

So far they have confirmed:

  • Backwards compatibility;
  • An eight core CPU;
  • Custom AMD GPU;
  • 8k graphics support;
  • 3D audio;
  • Haptic feedback on the controllers; and
  • A ‘super-fast’ SSD to cut down on load times.

It's an exciting year to be a gamer with PS5 and Xbox Series X coming out towards the end of the year and some massive releases like Cyberpunk 2077, Final Fantasy 7 Remake, a new Doom, Resident Evil 3 and Marvel’s Avengers.

Stay tuned for more gaming news as it comes. If you’re looking to buy any of the games mentioned above, or anything else gaming related, check out the gaming section on our online store.
