William Henry Dow was a Scottish-born Violin maker who lived from 1835 to 1928. He came to Victoria in 1855, working with a variety of engineering firms before pursuing his passion for Violin making. He ended up crafting over 200 Violins right here in Melbourne up until his death. These Violins were extremely popular and Dow drew great praise for his craftmanship. One of his Violins remains on display at the PowerHouse Museum in Sydney today.

This Violin is #73 and made in 1903.
